thanks for coming round to watch ‘great expectations' and muchas gracias for the participation in the debate..:)

the next feature on the agenda is 'mississippi burning' directed by london-born alan parker.. strong features of the feature are the excellent acting (gene hackman in particular) and the screenplay that tells a story of an investigation of a murder of three civil rights workers in Mississippi.. racial prejudices, injustice, the ku klux klan and burning crosses pictured by parker help understand the path which america has been on since the 1950s or even earlier, and which eventually led to obama's presidency..

Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress is a semi-autobiographical novel written by Dai Sijie, and published in 2000 in French and in English in 2001. Its original French title is Balzac et la petite tailleuse chinoise.

The Painted Veil is a 2006 American/Chinese drama film directed by John Curran. The screenplay by Ron Nyswaner is based on the 1925 novel of the same title by W. Somerset Maugham. Edward Norton, Naomi Watts, Anthony Wong Chau Sang and Liev Schreiber appear in the leading roles.

This is the third screen adaption of the Maugham book, following a 1934 film starring Herbert Marshall and Greta Garbo and a 1957 version called The Seventh Sin with Bill Travers and Eleanor Parker.
